Role overview

In this Buyer position, you will source relevant, trend-led products for stores and the website. The role calls for a solid understanding of customer demand, the ability to spot and bring in new products, and the discipline to manage a product portfolio that balances quality, value, competitiveness, sales and profitability within the wider commercial plan.

What you will do

  • Create, roll out and deliver category plans covering range reviews, promotions, pricing and stock control in line with the wider commercial direction and financial goals.
  • Spot and action new product opportunities that are commercially sound, competitively priced and aligned to customer needs, with the aim of improving sales and profit.
  • Monitor and adjust pricing to safeguard margin while keeping the business competitive, always working within the company pricing framework.
  • Work closely with the Online and Marketing teams to shape and deliver category-relevant promotional and marketing activity.
  • Follow applicable legislation and brand standards, and communicate clearly with customers to support footfall and profitable trading.
  • Assess how effective promotions are, take corrective action where needed, and share learnings and good practice with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Partner with Supply Chain to improve stock availability, manage store ranging and maintain healthy stock levels for the category.
  • Coordinate with Operations to ensure the commercial offer is implemented effectively and to support store teams in delivering it well.

What the role requires

  • Background as a Retail Buyer, ideally gained in FMCG.
  • Strong commercial judgement and the ability to interpret market and customer trends.
  • Confidence working with numbers and solid analytical capability.
  • Advanced Excel skills that are used regularly in day-to-day work.
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to influence suppliers and secure favourable commercial terms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with careful attention to detail.
  • Experience in value-led or discount retail would be advantageous.
