Role overview

This position sits within supply chain management and focuses on purchasing, planning, and coordination for manufacturing operations. The role is based in Galway, County Galway, Ireland, and is an individual contributor role at Analyst level (Band 07) with indirect responsibility.

The person in this job is expected to work independently across routine and moderately complex tasks, using professional judgment to decide the best way to complete recurring assignments. Work is carried out under general supervision, and unusual issues are escalated to a manager or subject matter expert. The role also involves building strong working relationships with suppliers, customers, and internal teams to support business goals.

What you will do

  • Plan and purchase materials needed to support manufacturing builds across one or more product lines.
  • Review demand forecasts and buy materials according to those projected requirements.
  • Make sure the right materials are available in time for production schedules.
  • Balance material needs with inventory turnover to avoid carrying excessive stock.
  • Support qualification of new suppliers through surveys and on-site visits.
  • Help create new supplier accounts with the finance team.
  • Partner with internal customers to manage defective materials, including returns and credits.
  • Work with accounts payable to investigate and resolve supplier invoice payment issues.
  • Translate customer forecasts into timely material plans and schedules.
  • Review production targets and build material plans accordingly.
  • Assess factors such as capacity, board cycle times, urgency, and material availability when building schedules.
  • Consider the downstream impact of customer scheduling on lines, procurement, logistics, and shipping.
  • Release or cancel orders based on production planning needs.
  • Protect the accuracy and quality of data used in the materials requirements plan.
  • Update plans when actual performance differs from the original plan.
  • Act as the liaison for customers during new product introduction.
  • Guide new products through manufacturing and into shipping based on customer needs.
  • Participate in weekly customer change meetings.
  • Review and submit new costs linked to engineering changes.

Skills and competencies

  • Understanding of an electronic manufacturing environment and the materials used in that setting.
  • Knowledge of engineering change processes.
  • Foundational grasp of production planning, scheduling, materials requirements planning, and manufacturing control systems.
  • Experience with procurement, inventory control, and supplier management practices.
  • Comfort using standard office tools such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, along with other business applications.
  • Strong negotiation and issue-resolution ability.
  • Capability to coordinate multiple materials and plans in a strategic way.
  • Ability to manage several priorities while staying accurate and detail-oriented under deadlines.
  • Good judgment in evaluating, ranking, and solving competing tasks efficiently.
  • Clear verbal and written communication with internal stakeholders and external partners.

Working conditions

  • The work is carried out in a standard office setting.
  • Extended sitting and sustained focus on a computer screen or detailed data may be required.
  • Frequent repetitive hand movements such as data entry, mouse use, and calculator work are part of the job.

Experience and education

Typical experience for this position is 2 to 4 years in a relevant field. A bachelor's degree in a related discipline is preferred, though an equivalent mix of education and experience may also be considered. Educational requirements can vary by geography.
