Job description

Role overview

This long-term contract position is for a Construction Supervisor (Building) supporting a national operator in Qatar. The assignment is based on a residential arrangement at the Mesaieed site, with an expected start as soon as possible, typically within one month of notice.

Work schedule

The role follows a six-day workweek, with shifts of 8 to 10 hours per day, or longer/shorter as project needs require.

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee EPIC contractors while they carry out construction work at the site.
  • Review detailed design packages, method statements, material requests, and related project documentation.
  • Coordinate contractor mobilization and site readiness activities.
  • Monitor, approve, and coordinate construction work, including inspections, material submittals, working drawings, and document processing.
  • Perform day-to-day checks on contractor personnel and completed work to confirm adherence to contractual specifications.
  • Manage mechanical construction-related tasks such as site investigations and site surveys.
  • Supervise the installation of fire electric/diesel pumps, jockey pumps, deluge piping, underground firefighting piping, and fire water tanks.
  • Apply working knowledge of deluge and sprinkler systems.
  • Keep a daily progress log, record notable comments, and report contractor deviations or irregularities along with recommended corrective actions.
  • Authorize work permits on behalf of the client and ensure contractor compliance with permit conditions.
  • Contribute to the preparation of as-built drawings and project records.
  • Compile punch lists for completed works before handover, with close attention to equipment and quality checks.
  • Work in coordination with other construction supervisors covering electrical, architectural, and instrumentation disciplines.
  • Report site issues, progress updates, trends, and improvement suggestions to the senior construction supervisor.
  • Ensure contractor work is properly supervised, issues are reported, and accidents caused by negligence are prevented through enforcement of client safety standards.
  • Coordinate with the QC Inspector on quality matters and with the HSE Supervisor on safety matters.
  • Prepare daily activity reports and communicate progress, constraints, and look-ahead items to the client and asset holders according to the approved distribution matrix.

Qualifications and experience

A degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a globally recognized university is required.

The ideal candidate should have 10 to 15 years of total experience in construction of EHV substations up to 132kV and above, along with exposure to mechanical works related to substation electrical equipment, HVAC systems, fire alarm and loss prevention systems, and building services.

Skills and capabilities

The role requires strong verbal and written communication skills for working with internal teams, external agencies, contractors, and vendors.
