Job description
Role overview
The custodian position plays an important role in upholding sanitation and cleanliness standards across the facility. After training and development, the person in this role is expected to keep shared areas clean and orderly, work independently, escalate any issues to the Sanitation Supervisor, and collaborate with others when needed. The job also requires flexibility to take on different tasks while following all safety procedures.
What this role covers
This team member helps create a safe, tidy, and well-maintained work environment by carrying out a broad range of cleaning and light maintenance duties in common spaces throughout the plant. Support for cleanup activities in other departments may also be required across the site.

Key duties
- Sanitize restrooms, break areas, and all other public spaces within the plant.
- Clean entry points, walkways, and outside areas.
- Empty and dispose of waste appropriately.
- Keep floors clean and well maintained across the facility.
- Record the cleaning work completed in the required documentation.
- Use personal protective equipment correctly whenever chemicals are handled.
- Follow approved chemical usage practices for sanitation tasks.
- Coordinate with the sanitation lead to determine priorities and track work progress.
- Help maintain sufficient inventory of cleaning materials and supplies.
- Follow company standards related to quality, HACCP, GMP, and food safety.
- Respond to radio requests for extra cleanup support anywhere in the plant.
- Take on additional tasks as needed.
Requirements
The role requires someone who can maintain sanitary conditions in a food manufacturing environment and work in line with food safety expectations. Strong English communication skills are needed, along with the ability to read and write clearly. The candidate must also be able to interpret scale readings and tape measurements, lift up to 50 pounds, remain standing for an 8 to 12 hour shift with breaks, and maintain reliable, on-time attendance.
Education
A high school diploma or GED is required.
