Custodian - 3rd Shift

Brief Overview

This position is part of the sanitation team and plays an important role in preserving a clean, safe, and high-standard environment across the facility’s shared spaces. After training, the custodian works independently, escalates observations to the Sanitation Supervisor, and stays flexible to handle a range of cleaning tasks while following all safety rules. The role also calls for teamwork, good judgment in prioritizing urgent needs, and a willingness to support changing plantwide needs.

Scope of Role

The custodian helps keep the facility orderly and sanitary by carrying out a broad mix of cleaning and light maintenance activities in common areas. When needed, the role may also assist other departments with cleanup work across the plant.

Responsibilities

• Sanitize shared areas such as restrooms, breakrooms, and other public spaces within the plant.
• Clean entrances, walkways, and exterior spaces used by staff or visitors.
• Gather waste and dispose of it properly.
• Keep floors clean and maintained throughout the facility.
• Record completed cleaning work and related documentation accurately.
• Use personal protective equipment correctly, especially when working with chemicals.
• Follow approved chemical handling and sanitation procedures.
• Coordinate with the sanitation lead to set priorities and review work progress.
• Help maintain enough inventory of cleaning materials and supplies.
• Follow company standards for quality, HACCP, GMP, and food safety.
• Answer radio calls and assist with additional cleanup needs across the plant.
• Take on other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Ability to keep work areas sanitary in line with food safety expectations.
• Comfortable speaking, reading, and writing in English.
• Ability to read and understand scale readings and tape measures.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to remain on your feet for an 8 to 12 hour shift, with breaks as provided.
• Reliable and punctual attendance is required.

Education

A high school diploma or GED is required.
