Job description

Role overview

Serco is hiring a Data Analyst to support high-visibility, mission-critical work for the U.S. Navy under the NAVSEA contract. The team contributes to the Navy Modernization Process, which helps plan, budget, engineer, and install shipboard improvements in a disciplined and cost-effective way while preserving configuration management and supportability.

This role is centered on analysis that helps senior Navy leaders make better decisions. The ideal background includes hands-on exposure to shipboard life, shipyard operations, or Navy maintenance metrics and analytics. A strong understanding of shipboard maintenance is especially valuable because the work requires interpreting data in the context of naval operations.

This is a fully remote position. It is contingent on the ability to maintain and transfer an active Secret clearance.

What you will do

You will support quarterly review work for the Availability Duration Scorecard and help estimate projected maintenance and modernization availability durations for Navy surface ships. The role also includes data organization, analytics, reporting, and coordination with working groups and leadership forums.

  • Prepare initial analysis and support materials for the Availability Duration Scorecard quarterly review.
  • Help calculate projected categorical maintenance and modernization availability durations for Navy surface ships using the ADS model.
  • Organize source material, perform analytics, and complete written deliverables with strong clarity, brevity, and standard terminology.
  • Build and maintain databases and spreadsheet-based analysis for planning, duration estimates, shipyard capacity, execution status, and financial or budget status.
  • Collect technical information from multiple sources and run Excel and SQL queries to retrieve needed data and parameters.
  • Use data mining methods on large datasets to identify patterns, relationships, and behavioral trends.
  • Interpret data to identify issues, opportunities, and practical solutions.
  • Create visual outputs such as interactive briefings, reports, and dashboards for delivery through Microsoft Teams or compatible NMCI-approved platforms.
  • Assess trends, behaviors, and process outcomes, then recommend actions based on the analysis.
  • Identify root causes and ensure analytics are actionable, useful now, and predictive for future needs.
  • Lead working groups, analytical teams, forums, and Surface Ship readiness exercises while maintaining storyline and graphics.
  • Provide program management and planning support as needed.

Required background

Candidates must have an active DoD Secret clearance, U.S. citizenship, a bachelor’s degree, and at least five years of relevant experience. The role also calls for strong communication skills, excellent attention to detail, and advanced ability with Microsoft Office tools.

  • Active DoD Secret security clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to use data to support decisions and improve operations.
  • Experience with statistical analysis, data visualization, and advanced analytics in a Department of Defense environment.
  • Strong communication skills for presenting complex insights to senior Navy leadership.
  • Careful attention to standards and a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Familiarity with data sources and systems used in the naval environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.

Preferred experience

The following experience is not stated as mandatory but would strengthen a candidate’s profile:

  • NAVSEA or Navy experience.
  • Exposure to depot-level overhaul, maintenance, and modernization work.
  • Experience writing algorithms in Python or similar AI/ML languages.
  • Familiarity with Navy maintenance and readiness systems such as OARS, VSB, CASREP, or similar tools.
  • DoD experience and, ideally, experience with naval surface ships.
  • Education or certification in data analytics, computer science, or a related discipline.
