The Information Technology Services function supports enterprise data and database platforms with a focus on dependable, high-quality solutions. The team works with stakeholders to design, improve, and support database environments that keep applications running smoothly. This role is centered on maintaining and strengthening SQL Server databases and data warehouse systems.
Role summary
In this position, you will work with internal teams and business groups on enterprise database and data solutions. The role involves database design, operational support, troubleshooting, performance improvement, and contribution to data warehousing initiatives.
Key responsibilities
- Build and deploy databases that support local applications and system integrations.
- Work alongside developers and business stakeholders during the software development life cycle and continue supporting applications after release.
- Improve the performance of complex queries to help applications run faster and more efficiently.
- Administer Microsoft SQL Server environments so they remain optimized, updated, and supported.
- Deliver Level 2 and Level 3 support for database issues escalated from other analysts.
- Carry out scheduled maintenance and assist with release deployments, including support outside normal hours when needed.
- Help with business continuity and disaster recovery activities, including backups and restoration checks to protect data integrity.
- Maintain database security and compliance by monitoring logs and running tasks such as index rebuilds, error log reviews, and security log checks.
- Support data warehousing work by improving cloud-based data infrastructure and implementing ETL workflows.
- Partner with technical and business teams to ensure the data warehouse architecture is used effectively.
- Own significant incidents and resolve escalated problems quickly and effectively.
- Create and keep up-to-date documentation for database setups and operational processes.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of full-time experience in IT, with a strong background in database administration and data handling.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Azure PaaS SQL, and data warehousing concepts.
- Practical exposure to ETL or ELT work using tools such as Azure Data Factory, SSIS, and SSRS.
- Solid understanding of dimensional modelling, slowly changing dimensions, and database normalization.
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps and CI/CD automation methods.
- Experience using Power BI and SSAS Tabular for reporting and analytics.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting ability for resolving complex database issues.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Capability to work independently and manage priorities in a busy environment.
