Job description

Role overview

As a Dispenser in one of Boots UK’s stores, you will play an important part in the pharmacy team. You’ll work alongside the pharmacist and other healthcare colleagues to help deliver pharmacy and healthcare services safely and efficiently.

In the store’s healthcare department, you’ll spend your time developing trusted relationships with patients, understanding their needs, and supporting them with practical guidance. The role includes welcoming customers, dispensing prescriptions, ensuring medicines are supplied safely, and using your healthcare knowledge to help people make informed choices about their health and wellbeing.

This position is based in a UK store. Remote working is not available, and candidates outside the UK will only be progressed if they can provide relevant UK qualifications and proof of the right to work in the UK.

Pay

The hourly pay for this role is £13.92, rising to as much as £16.64 in selected London locations.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare and dispense prescriptions, including ordering medicines, labelling items, endorsing prescriptions, and supporting collection.
  • Work with in-store healthcare colleagues to help deliver pharmacy services.
  • Offer medicine-related guidance to patients and direct queries to the pharmacist when needed.
  • Follow standard operating procedures to ensure prescriptions are dispensed safely and legally.
  • Stay current with new store innovations and follow operational processes accurately.
  • Help patients manage repeat prescriptions and medicines in a way that improves adherence and reduces waste.

Technology and development

You’ll also work with changing in-store technologies and new systems that are designed to improve dispensing, strengthen patient safety, and free up more time for patient-facing support. Ongoing updates and training will be provided to grow your healthcare knowledge, along with development opportunities such as training as a Pharmacy Technician or moving into store leadership.

Requirements

  • You must have completed the Pharmacy Advisor qualification (NVQ2 or equivalent), or be working toward it with the first year of an MPharm completed.
  • You must already have valid UK right to work. Sponsorship under the Skilled Worker Visa route is not available for this role.

Preferred experience

  • Previous experience in community pharmacy would be an advantage.

Benefits

  • Discretionary Christmas gift payment.
  • Generous colleague discount.
  • Enhanced pay for maternity, paternity, and adoption leave, plus a gift card for colleagues expecting or adopting a child.
  • Flexible benefits scheme.
  • Free 24/7 counselling and support through the employee assistance programme with TELUS Health.

Additional information

Boots offers a broad range of benefits designed to give flexibility. Where a role is advertised as full time, part-time and job-share arrangements may also be discussed during the application process. Reasonable adjustments can be provided for candidates who need support during the application or interview stages.

After an offer is made, the successful candidate will need to complete pre-employment checks. Depending on location, this may include a DBS, PVG, or Access NI check.
