Role summary

AIR Sligo, part of the global AIR Group, is looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to strengthen its engineering team and contribute to the delivery of custom automated equipment. The position focuses on creating electrical solutions for advanced automation projects and partnering with cross-functional teams to produce safe, compliant, and efficient outcomes from initial concept through to commissioning.

You will convert customer needs into robust electrical designs and support fabrication, testing, and commissioning work as needed.

What the role involves

The engineer will own the creation and delivery of electrical design output required for manufacturing complex automated equipment. Alongside design work, the role also covers component selection, purchasing support, and practical assistance to build and debug teams.

Key duties

  • Produce electrical design work for complex automation assignments.
  • Create detailed electrical schematics for manufacturing and assembly.
  • Identify and source electrical components needed for the design.
  • Prepare test plans and supporting documentation for completed electrical designs.
  • Support electrical troubleshooting and debugging activities on systems.
  • Work directly with customers and suppliers as part of project delivery.
  • Help ensure milestones and delivery dates are met.

Required background

Applicants should hold a degree or diploma in electrical or electronic engineering, preferably with manufacturing-related study content. A minimum of 3 years' industry experience is required in electrical design, industrial wiring, and troubleshooting manufacturing equipment.

The role calls for working knowledge of machine-related components and systems, including electrical controls, AC/DC motors, servo motors, inverters, general panel equipment, drives, and pneumatics. Candidates should also be comfortable using Eplan, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office.

Basic understanding of PLC programming and control methods is expected. The ideal person will be proactive, self-driven, comfortable working to typical project deadlines, and able to contribute effectively within a professional team. A current driving licence is required, along with the ability to travel when needed.
