Role overview
This contract position is for an Electrical Engineering Specialist based in Qatar. The role supports EPC delivery and the transition into start-up and operations, providing specialist input to ensure electrical systems are designed, commissioned, and operated to high standards of safety, reliability, operability, and maintainability across the full facility life cycle.
The specialist will serve as a trusted technical advisor to project and operations teams, helping shape design and execution decisions while weighing both capital expenditure and operating cost impacts.
Engineering support
- Offer advanced electrical engineering support throughout the project lifecycle, including design reviews, commissioning, start-up, troubleshooting, and root-cause / failure analysis.
- Check and confirm engineering outputs so they match operational needs and company standards.
- Assist with demanding and high-risk commissioning work by improving system readiness and performance for operations.
- Provide practical technical guidance to multidisciplinary teams and help resolve complex issues collaboratively.
Project and operations coordination
- Support EPC execution and help coordinate smoothly between project delivery and operations functions.
- Manage tie-ins and help ensure new systems are integrated safely and efficiently into existing facilities.
- Take part in engineering and operational readiness assessments, flagging risks and suggesting mitigation actions.
- Keep an issue register to monitor, escalate, and close out important technical concerns.
Reliability and performance
- Create and run surveillance plans for critical electrical assets to support reliability, availability, and cybersecurity compliance.
- Drive continuous improvement efforts and apply proven best practices where appropriate.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and make sure risks are identified and controlled before implementation.
Contractor and stakeholder management
- Oversee and coordinate contractors, consultants, and service providers.
- Work closely with internal teams such as PMT, Operations, Engineering & Projects, and HSEQ.
- Engage with external parties including EPC contractors, vendors, and subject matter experts.
Leadership and knowledge sharing
- Coach and support junior engineers on technical and operational practices.
- Encourage knowledge transfer and help improve engineering standards and working methods.
- Contribute to team objectives through leadership, collaboration, and participation in departmental activities.
Health, safety, and compliance
- Make sure work is carried out in line with SHEQ policies and company requirements.
- Follow internal procedures, specifications, and applicable regulatory obligations.
- Observe relevant legal and governance expectations, including anti-trust and corporate governance rules.
Qualifications and experience
- A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field is required.
- At least 8 years of relevant experience in oil & gas or the energy sector is expected.
- Strong background in electrical systems within major EPC and operating environments.
- Hands-on experience with commissioning, start-up, and troubleshooting of large industrial projects.
- Solid understanding of electrical system design, operation, and maintenance.
- Experience in reliability engineering, system surveillance, and performance optimization.
- Working familiarity with industry standards, engineering tools, and technical software.
