Where you'll work

Job description

Role overview

This opportunity is with a growing Scottish civil engineering and renewables contractor, where estimating plays an important role in winning work and shaping future business direction. The position is designed for someone who wants more than a desk-based spreadsheet role and prefers work that has visible impact on the company’s pipeline and decisions.

You will work closely with the business owner and operational leaders on tenders covering civil engineering infrastructure, renewable energy projects, and public sector frameworks. The workload is varied, the pipeline is healthy, and your estimates will help determine which opportunities the business pursues.

The role offers real flexibility. You will not be expected to be in the office every day, and there is room to work from home, organise your own schedule, and focus on outcomes rather than constant supervision. It is aimed at someone experienced enough to work with a high level of independence.

What you will do

  • Own the estimating process from the first enquiry through to final tender submission for civil engineering and renewables work.
  • Build detailed and competitive cost plans for a broad mix of civil and infrastructure projects.
  • Study drawings, specifications, and tender packs to develop a clear commercial assessment of each opportunity.
  • Obtain and compare quotations from suppliers and subcontractors to support accurate pricing.
  • Work alongside operational teams to check buildability and assess risk before bids are submitted.
  • Support tender submissions and help secure new work, rather than only pricing projects.

Experience and requirements

Applicants should generally already be working as an Estimator or Senior Estimator in civil engineering, infrastructure, or a closely related field.

  • Comfortable handling your own workload with minimal day-to-day supervision.
  • A solid grasp of the commercial side of projects, not just the arithmetic.
  • Commitment to producing accurate work that can withstand close review.
  • Interest in being part of a growing business where your input is genuinely valued.

Working style and benefits

  • Flexible hybrid working, with genuine home-based options.
  • A growing company backed by secured frameworks and a strong future pipeline.
  • Interesting and varied projects across several sectors.
  • The opportunity to influence which projects the business bids for.
  • A professional, trusting team environment with no micromanagement.
