Job description

Role Overview

Stowe Australia, a major Australian contractor in electrical and communications services, is inviting experienced Fibre Technicians to express interest in work supporting projects across Melbourne, Adelaide, and the Northern Territory. The position is based out of the Melbourne office and includes travel to project sites as required. Travel and accommodation-related costs while working away from home will be paid by the company. The work is typically arranged on a 3-week rotating roster.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform fibre optic splicing and jointing tasks to a high standard.
  • Assemble connectors and complete fibre terminations, including polishing and finishing the end face.
  • Carry out testing and troubleshoot faults in fibre optic networks.
  • Prepare fibre cables and manage cable handling activities.
  • Haul cable over long distances as part of project delivery.
  • Maintain strong standards of workmanship, safety, and quality while on site.
  • Adapt to different project settings, including remote work locations.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with supervisors, project teams, and clients.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should be capable in fibre splicing, connector assembly, fibre termination, polishing, end-face finishing, testing, preparation, and long-distance cable hauling. Experience on construction, communications, or infrastructure projects is preferred. The role also suits people who are comfortable working away from home on a rostered basis and who demonstrate a strong focus on safety and quality.

A current White Card / Construction Induction, a valid driver’s licence, and ACMA Open Cabling Registration or an equivalent telecommunications qualification will be viewed favourably. Additional desirable credentials include a Cert III in Telecommunications or an equivalent qualification, Cert III Electrical or an A Grade Electrical Licence, experience in remote or regional areas, work on major communications, defence, utilities, or infrastructure projects, First Aid training, and site tickets such as EWP or Working at Heights.
