Finance Director

The opportunity

This senior finance position reports to the CEO and serves as a major business partner across the organisation. You will oversee the complete finance agenda, including planning, reporting, treasury, governance, and support for strategic decisions. The role carries significant influence over capital deployment, operating performance, and the company’s global footprint.

Strategic finance and planning

• Own the company-wide budgeting, forecasting, and multi-year planning cycles.
• Analyse performance trends, including budget variances and profitability by product.
• Work with functional leaders to identify and reduce costs in procurement, production, and overhead areas.
• Assist with investment choices through modelling scenarios and evaluating capital expenditure proposals.

Financial reporting and governance

• Supervise finance processes across several jurisdictions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and month-end closing.
• Ensure all tax, regulatory, and statutory reporting obligations are met.
• Coordinate with external auditors, tax specialists, and regulators as needed.
• Improve internal controls and reinforce the company’s financial governance structure.

Treasury and funding

• Design and implement funding plans using debt, grants, and possible equity financing.
• Manage cash movement, working capital, and liquidity requirements to support expansion.
• Handle banking relationships, lending lines, and foreign exchange exposure.

Business partnering and growth support

• Serve as a trusted finance advisor to operations, supply chain, and commercial teams.
• Support mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and new market entry through valuation work, financial analysis, and due diligence.
• Work closely with regional stakeholders, JV partners, and investors.

Leadership and transformation

• Lead, coach, and build capability across a finance team of 13 to 14 people.
• Improve finance systems, workflows, and ERP functionality through continuous enhancement.
• Promote digital transformation and the use of AI within the finance function.

Requirements

• A degree in finance, accounting, or a similar discipline is required; CPA, ACCA, or CFA qualifications are an advantage.
• At least 12 years of professional experience, with exposure to senior leadership responsibilities.
• Background in a start-up or SME setting with direct visibility over financials and regular engagement with the board.
• Fundraising experience is mandatory.
• Ability to operate effectively without a mature ERP environment and to implement ERP solutions where needed.
• Experience in manufacturing, industrial, or other capital-intensive settings, including production or plant-based work, is essential.
• Strong exposure to cross-border operations, with China-related experience preferred.
• Fluency in both English and Mandarin is essential for stakeholder communication.
• Solid command of accounting standards such as SFRS and IFRS, combined with commercial judgement.
• Comfortable working in environments with ambiguity and evolving priorities.
• Proven capability in financial modelling, strategic planning, and influencing senior decision-makers.
