Job summary

This role is focused on keeping the store clean, sanitary, and safe for both shoppers and associates. The position supports customer confidence and loyalty by helping maintain consistent store conditions and by working in a way that reflects respect for the diverse experiences and backgrounds of the team.

Key responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness and order across the sales floor, liquor area, offices, breakrooms, backrooms, training rooms, and restrooms, making sure these spaces remain free of hazards.
  • Use floor-care equipment, department tools, and cleaning chemicals appropriately to carry out daily cleaning tasks.
  • Sweep or vacuum mats and rugs and place them back in their original locations after cleaning.
  • Remove carpet spots, empty trash, and carry out deep-cleaning tasks in restrooms.
  • Create a welcoming store environment that helps customers feel valued and supported, including offering assistance in locating products or suggesting items when appropriate.
  • Help ensure store conditions meet company expectations for cleanliness, sanitation, and overall presentation.
  • Follow company standards related to safety, food handling, sanitation, and productivity.
  • Comply with all required regulatory rules, including food safety requirements, USDA guidelines, Country of Origin Labeling (COOL), and Department of Agriculture (DOA) rules.
  • Carry out product recalls and withdrawals promptly, making sure affected items are secured and kept out of customer access.
  • Support safety programs by following procedures, identifying unsafe conditions, and reporting them to store management.
  • Report customer or employee accidents, as well as any safety risks, legal concerns, robbery, theft, or fraud.
  • Follow wage-and-hour policies and help maintain a strong safety culture in the store.
  • Make sure associates work safely, receive required safety training, and have access to posted hazard assessments and personal protective equipment when needed.
  • Ensure equipment remains in good working condition and help report and address safety hazards, including lockout/tagout situations when necessary.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is preferred.
  • English is required; Spanish is preferred.
  • 0 to 3 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States, or able to obtain that authorization.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test and background check is required.
  • Strong customer service ability is essential.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and motivational skills are needed.

Work environment and physical demands

  • This is a retail environment with heavy physical demands.
  • Work involves standing and walking on different floor surfaces, using manual dexterity, talking, seeing, hearing, smelling, and repeating movements with hands and feet.
  • The role may require reaching at waist height or overhead and carrying, pushing, or lifting loads up to the required limits.
  • Occasional sitting, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing up to 30 feet may be needed.
  • Work conditions can include indoor, outdoor, cold, freezing, heated, and wet or humid environments.
  • Safety risks may include twisting of the back or neck, slippery or cluttered floors, hazardous equipment, sharp objects, loud noise, skin irritants, dust, fumes, sprays, hazardous cleaning solutions, and other toxins.
  • Required equipment may include cleaning supplies and equipment, office equipment, register, pricing gun, scales, scanner, and material-handling tools such as racks, carts, pallet jacks, and shopping carts.
  • Preferred equipment includes a baler/compactor and box cutter.
  • Personal protective equipment includes goggles, gloves, and a back brace.
  • Pulling requirement is 250 lbs and lifting requirement is 50 lbs.

Additional information

  • Travel may occur occasionally.
  • Overnight travel is not required.
  • Shift timing is varied.
