General Labourer

About the Role

Doman Building Materials Group, through its NorthWest Wood Treaters LP subsidiary, is seeking a General Labourer for its wood treating plant in Prince George, BC. Reporting to the Plant Manager, this permanent full-time position involves operating lumber handling equipment, banding, wrapping, and labeling lumber products. The role also includes servicing production machinery and maintaining a clean and organized work environment, all while adhering to safety regulations and customer commitments.

Responsibilities

• Operate lumber handling equipment for various wood stacking machinery.
• Apply barcode labels to lumber.
• Band and wrap lumber products.
• Perform occasional manual stacking of wood.
• Service and maintain production machines.
• Ensure the yard is kept clean and organized.
• Comply with all safety rules and regulations.
• Meet customer service expectations.

Requirements

• Demonstrate strong attention to detail.
• Ability to accurately count and identify different types of lumber.
• Previous experience in a lumber mill or yard is advantageous.
• Must possess personal steel-toed safety boots.
• Capability to lift up to 50 pounds (23 kilograms).
• Comfortable with tasks involving bending, lifting, and reaching throughout the shift.
• Proficiency in English, including speaking, reading, and writing.
• Forklift certification is considered a plus.
• Level Three First Aid certification is an asset.

Education

• High school diploma is preferred.
• A background in Forestry or Wood Processing is beneficial.

Additional Information

• This is a permanent, full-time position within a unionized environment.
• Standard working hours are Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday, from 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM, subject to operational needs.
• The work location is 10553 Willow Cale Forest Rd, Prince George, BC V2N 4T6.
• Reliable personal transportation is required as the site is not accessible by public transit.
