Where you'll work
Job description
Role overview
Darwalla Group is hiring people to join its modern hatchery in Allora, Queensland, where the main focus is the safe production and handling of day-old chicks. These are permanent full-time positions with training provided from the start, so no previous hatchery experience is required.
Work schedule and pay
The role begins at $29.23 per hour. You will work four 9.5-hour shifts each week, starting at 5:30am, which means you should finish in the early afternoon and have three days off weekly. Extra hours may be available at times, and weekend work could be part of the roster. This is a long-term opportunity, and applicants should be prepared to commit for at least 6 months.
What the job involves
Team members will assist with a range of hatchery duties such as setting eggs, transferring eggs, taking chicks off the hatch and processing them, along with general cleaning tasks. The work environment can be physically demanding, so good health, stamina, and the ability to handle manual work are essential.
Health, biosecurity and workplace conditions
Because the poultry industry operates under strict biosecurity and animal welfare rules, employees must meet specific requirements. Staff cannot keep pet birds, poultry, or pigs, and they must not live with people who work in other poultry-related roles or in pig farming or hunting. The hatchery uses a shower-in, shower-out procedure. A medical check is required before an offer is made to confirm the applicant can meet the physical demands of the role.
What is offered
Employees receive complimentary tea, coffee, milk, and fresh fruit. There is also free secure onsite parking, a strong focus on safety, and all necessary uniforms and safety gear are supplied.
What Darwalla is looking for
Darwalla is seeking reliable, hardworking people with a positive, team-focused attitude. Candidates should be physically fit enough to stand for long periods, be comfortable working in a dusty and noisy poultry setting, and be willing to work safely at all times. Clear spoken and written English is important for communication and following instructions. Having a background in factory, production, or farming work can help, but it is not essential because full training is provided. A car and driver’s licence are needed, as there is no public transport to the site.
About the company
Darwalla is a fourth-generation family business with more than 90 years of experience in producing quality chickens. Its operations span Mt Cotton, the Redlands, the Darling Downs, and the Lockyer Valley, and the company places a strong emphasis on safety and caring for its people.
How to apply
Interested candidates can apply directly through the provided application process without submitting a resume.
Additional notes
This position is based in Allora, conveniently located between Toowoomba and Warwick. Applicants should only apply if they are serious about working with the company for at least 6 months.
