Role overview

Sainsbury’s stores are busy, energetic places where each day brings something different and food is at the centre of what we do. In this role, you will be a key part of the team that brings customers’ online shopping orders to their homes.

Eligibility

• You need to be at least 18 years old.
• A full UK or EU driving licence must have been held for a minimum of 12 months.
• Your licence should have no more than 6 points.
• You will be asked to complete an online driving risk assessment during the interview stage.
• If you are successful, you will also complete a driving assessment when you join.
• You must already have the right to work in the UK.

Key duties

• Drive a 3.5-tonne van to deliver grocery orders to customers’ doors promptly and in good condition.
• Carry out vehicle checks to make sure the van is clean, organised, roadworthy, and that all delivery containers are safely secured before driving.
• Provide excellent customer service by answering questions, handling substitutions, and keeping customers informed about delays.
• Learn enough about products, services, and promotions to make helpful suggestions and recommendations.
• When you are not on delivery runs, support the wider store team with other tasks as required.

• Confidence driving larger vehicles in a range of settings, including busy streets, narrow lanes, and different types of homes.
• The ability to work in a fast-moving, physically active, high-energy environment and use initiative to solve problems, both independently and as part of a team.
• Flexibility and a willingness to work productively across the store when needed, while learning new skills.
• Comfort using digital tools and technology, plus the strength to move shopping containers weighing up to 15 kg.
• Awareness that in-cab AI cameras are used to support safer driving, monitor behaviour, and help maintain compliance with road and defensive driving standards.
