Role Overview

The HR Leader will define and drive the company’s human resources strategy while acting as a close partner to business leadership. This position oversees the main HR functions, including hiring, onboarding, benefits, compliance, and employee relations, and helps align structure and talent with business priorities. The role also promotes a consistent workplace culture by integrating company values into everyday processes across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strengthen company culture by weaving organizational values into daily operations, leadership routines, and HR programs.
  • Keep HR practices aligned with U.S. and international employment regulations, and revise policies with support from legal counsel when needed.
  • Work with leadership on workforce planning, staffing models, and organizational structure that support business goals.
  • Oversee and improve compensation, benefits, and wellness initiatives, including annual reviews, vendor coordination, and 401(k) administration.
  • Run recruitment, onboarding, and retention activities; also support succession planning and training for managers and employees.
  • Handle employee relations matters with fairness, consistency, compliance, and protection of company interests.
  • Track important HR measures such as time-to-fill and turnover, manage budgets, and improve processes for better efficiency.
  • Support staffing plans and compliance readiness for new contract opportunities.
  • Assist with HR due diligence and integration work, including employee transitions, policy harmonization, and retention planning.
  • Provide HR support to affiliated entities to create a consistent employee experience.
  • Lead and grow a team of three HR professionals and interns, encouraging accountability, development, and strong performance.
  • Own full-cycle people management by hiring, coaching, mentoring, and developing team members while applying policies consistently.
  • Set clear expectations, coach continuously, and manage performance to improve execution and team capability.
  • Travel is expected to be minimal.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or PHR certification is preferred.
  • 8 to 12 years of broad HR experience, including leadership responsibilities.
  • Background working in complex or fast-growing organizations.
  • Government contractor experience is strongly preferred.
  • International HR experience is preferred.
  • Self-driven leader with a strong bias for action and results.
  • Comfortable leading through change in dynamic and evolving environments.
  • Analytical and objective with sound judgment in complex employee and organizational situations.
  • Proven ability to build trust and influence across teams and levels.
  • High level of discretion and professionalism.
  • Able to balance competing priorities while staying responsive to business and employee needs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including policy writing and clear messaging.
  • Confident in presenting and facilitating discussions with groups and leadership audiences.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and HR systems; familiarity with tools such as Paylocity, Workable, and Excel is helpful.
  • Experience with AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Copilot is a plus.

Additional Information

This is a full-time, onsite position based in Rockford, Illinois. The role includes leadership of a three-person HR team plus interns. Compensation

The salary range for this position is $115,000 to $150,000 per year.
