Role overview

This opportunity is for an Instrumentation Engineer in Ras Laffan, Qatar, supporting oil and gas operations. The position focuses on keeping plant instrumentation and control assets accurate, reliable, and safe through inspection, calibration, fault-finding, maintenance, and performance optimization. The engineer will work closely with teams from different disciplines to help deliver projects and maintain operational stability.

What you will do

  • Carry out inspection, calibration, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of instrumentation and control equipment to support efficient plant operation.
  • Identify and fix issues affecting DCS, PLC, SCADA, control valves, transmitters, analyzers, and related field devices.
  • Use engineering documents such as P&IDs, loop drawings, cause-and-effect charts, instrument indexes, and technical drawings to support maintenance and modification work.
  • Coordinate with operations, maintenance, and engineering personnel during shutdowns, preventive maintenance activities, and project execution.
  • Make sure all work follows company procedures, safety rules, and relevant industry standards.
  • Prepare maintenance logs, calibration documentation, and technical reports as needed.
  • Assist with commissioning, startup, and system integration activities when required.

Required background and skills

  • You should have 5 to 10 years of experience as an Instrumentation Engineer in the oil and gas sector.
  • Hands-on experience with field instrumentation and control-system maintenance and troubleshooting is essential.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a similar field is required.
  • You need strong working knowledge of instrumentation systems, calibration methods, troubleshooting, and preventive as well as corrective maintenance.
  • Practical exposure to DCS, PLC, SCADA, control valves, transmitters, analyzers, and other field instruments is necessary.
  • Ability to understand P&IDs, loop diagrams, cause-and-effect charts, instrument indexes, and technical drawings is important.
  • Familiarity with industry codes, standards, and accepted instrumentation practices is expected.
  • Oil and gas experience is mandatory.
  • You must have a solid understanding of HSE requirements and safe-work practices.
  • Strong coordination skills are needed to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and contractors.
  • Good analytical ability, problem-solving capability, and communication skills are required.
