Job description
Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-focused Junior Data Analyst to support a growing team by turning complex healthcare data into clear, actionable insights. The right person will have a strong investigative mindset, a track record of finding meaningful patterns in data, and the ability to present those findings in a way that stakeholders can easily understand. This position contributes directly to reducing costs and improving claim accuracy across Group Health and Workers’ Compensation plans.
The role suits someone with solid grounding in statistics and modeling, practical experience working with healthcare claims data, and technical proficiency in SQL, Python, and Power BI. A genuine interest in improving healthcare outcomes is also important.
This position can be performed remotely or in a hybrid arrangement. Candidates based near the company office may be expected on-site 2–3 days per week. Remote team members may need to travel to the Portland office when business needs require it. The role reports to the Senior Director of Data Science.
Key Responsibilities
- Review Group Health and Workers’ Compensation claims data to spot opportunities for cost reduction, including billing issues, errors, and possible overpayments for both current and prospective clients.
- Develop, test, and support statistical models that reveal trends and help guide business decisions using healthcare data.
- Partner with operations and sales teams to interpret data patterns and suggest ways to improve processes.
- Create and update reports and dashboards that track claim activity and key performance measures.
- Convert business needs into technical requirements for analytical work.
- Present insights and recommendations in a clear, understandable way to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or another quantitative discipline.
- At least 3 years of experience using statistical modeling methods such as Six Sigma, regression analysis, or hypothesis testing, along with healthcare claims or similar healthcare data analysis.
- Comfort using SQL, Python, R, Tableau, or Power BI for analysis and visualization.
- Hands-on experience with SQL databases and related tools such as MySQL Workbench or DBeaver.
- Good understanding of healthcare reimbursement approaches and claims adjudication.
- Background in payment integrity, healthcare cost containment, or audit-related work.
- Authorization to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.
Preferred Experience
- Exposure to medical coding systems such as ICD, CPT, and HCPCS.
- Familiarity with Medicare Advantage, Group Health, and Workers’ Compensation payer environments.
Work Arrangement
This role supports both remote and hybrid work, with possible office attendance for nearby candidates and occasional travel to the Portland office for remote employees based on business requirements.
