Job description
About the Organisation
Places for People Group is a social enterprise focused on strengthening communities by creating homes and delivering services that help people thrive. Through Places Leisure, the organisation aims to improve lives by building active spaces and supporting healthier communities, with a goal of becoming the UK’s leading enabler of health and wellbeing.
The company takes a people-first approach with its own teams as well, aiming to make staff feel valued, supported, and part of a wider purpose rather than just another employee.
Role Overview
This is a new opportunity for a Lifeguard at Places Leisure in Clevedon. The role is suited to someone who enjoys working in an energetic, friendly setting alongside like-minded colleagues and wants to contribute to a positive experience for customers.
A National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) is helpful, but if you are safety-focused, confident in the water, and keen to build practical skills, the team may support you through training and development to gain the qualification.
The position can also open the door to future career paths within Places Leisure, including operational management, sales, fitness, and customer service. The organisation also provides ongoing training, competency assessments, first aid at work learning, swimming teacher qualifications, and access to apprenticeship options.
Key Duties
- Oversee the safety and wellbeing of customers and fellow lifeguards using the swimming and pool facilities.
- Maintain a strong safety focus at all times and take responsibility for the health and safety of pool users, while keeping an eye on overall building operations.
- Pay close attention to detail to help ensure visitors can enjoy the facilities safely.
- Deliver high-quality customer service in a warm, professional, and helpful manner.
- Uphold high standards of cleanliness and act on them whenever needed.
Candidate Profile
The NPLQ is required for this role. The ideal candidate will be a competent swimmer with a strong awareness of safety, excellent attention to detail, and a genuine commitment to customer care. A professional attitude and willingness to maintain cleanliness and service standards are also important.
Benefits
- 2% bonus scheme for all colleagues.
- Full Health & Fitness membership for you, one nominated adult, and up to 4 juniors.
- Flexible working options, including part-time arrangements and shift work.
- Option to buy extra annual leave.
- Access to ongoing learning and development.
- Company pension scheme.
- Cashback support for healthcare costs, offering savings of up to £500 per year.
- Up to 50% discount on activities, centre shop purchases, and cafes.
- Additional discounts and offers from retail, cinema, and other partners.
Additional Information
Safeguarding is treated as a shared responsibility. The organisation is committed to keeping children, young people, and adults at risk safe from harm, abuse, and neglect through strong policies and procedures. Recruitment may include pre-employment checks, such as DBS checks where relevant. Employees are expected to support the safeguarding culture by following policies and raising concerns appropriately.
