Role overview
This role reports to the Maintenance Manager and focuses on organizing, planning, and scheduling maintenance activities from start to finish. The person in this position will build, sequence, improve, review, and close all kinds of work orders, while also preparing maintenance reports that cover labor usage, spare parts spending, equipment-related costs, schedule adherence, proactive work, and other key metrics.
The position is based at the production facility in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, and requires onsite attendance five days a week.
Key duties
- Keep the maintenance workflow moving smoothly by making sure every request is entered correctly into the CMMS.
- Verify that each work order has the right details for effective planning, including skill assignment, cost center, and clear work instructions or intent.
- Monitor maintenance jobs and keep all relevant teams updated on progress and status.
- Partner with maintenance technicians so work is completed on schedule and as planned.
- Work with Spare Parts Coordinator(s) to create, roll out, and improve the kitting process.
- Improve maintenance plans and schedules across predictive, preventive, routine, planned, and emergency work.
- Contribute to the creation of detailed preventive maintenance tasks.
- Ensure all plant assets are recorded in the CMMS and that required PMs are in place; also set up PMs for new equipment.
- Train maintenance employees to use the CMMS effectively and monitor maintenance KPIs.
- Follow company policies, procedures, GMPs, SOPs, and safety rules, and encourage safe practices among coworkers.
- Help develop equipment BOMs.
- Carry out other duties assigned by management.
Qualifications and experience
Candidates should have a secondary school diploma and at least 5 years of experience as a maintenance mechanic in an industrial maintenance environment. The role requires solid technical knowledge of industrial maintenance, including applicable regulations, standards, and codes, along with a strong grasp of engineering principles and maintenance practices.
Strong English communication skills are essential, including the ability to read, write, and speak clearly. Applicants must be able to lift 20 lbs regularly.
Experience using technology, especially CMMS platforms and MS Office, is required. The role also calls for strong organization, attention to detail, the ability to juggle multiple priorities, and prior exposure to maintenance planning and/or scheduling. A good understanding of schedule compliance, work order completion, and cost impact is important. The ideal candidate is adaptable, uses sound judgment backed by facts, and works well in a team environment.
Flexibility to work all shifts, including weekends and holidays, is required.

Physical demands
This job regularly involves walking, sitting, speaking, listening, and reaching with the hands and arms. The employee must be able to handle, operate, and feel tools, controls, and objects. Occasional driving to off-site meetings may be required. Adequate vision is needed for vehicle operation, camera use, and office or job-related equipment, including close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Clear hearing and speech are necessary for communication with clients, coworkers, employees, and vendors.
Work environment
The plant setting may include loud noise, food-grade dust and odors, moving and vibrating equipment, heavy machinery, powered industrial trucks, heights, traffic, anhydrous ammonia, oil, and electricity. The employee may also face weather extremes such as severe cold, heat, rain, snow, dust, smoke, and odors.
