Role overview

The company is looking for a Shift Maintenance Technician to support a major medical device client in County Westmeath. The role offers attractive shift patterns and is based in Athlone, Westmeath.

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out electrical or mechanical maintenance and diagnose faults on production equipment used in a manufacturing setting.
  • Test and qualify PLC- and PC-controlled production machinery.
  • Work closely with production team leads and respond to their instructions.
  • Coordinate with the manufacturing team on production schedules, downtime for preventive maintenance, and equipment access.
  • Deliver work within tight timelines and scheduled deadlines.
  • Take a proactive approach by suggesting ideas that improve project efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Perform acceptance, operational, and functional testing or qualification to prepare systems for production.

Authority and compliance

  • Stop work if an unsafe practice creates a risk of injury, environmental harm, or damage to equipment or other people.
  • Complete all duties in line with quality, safety, and environmental standards at all times.

Requirements

  • A minimum Level 6 qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, or Electrical and Instrumentation.
  • Three to five years of experience in a similar technical position, ideally in medical devices or a comparable industry, with a proven track record.
  • Hands-on mechanical experience in an automated manufacturing environment.
  • Practical knowledge of PLCs, motor drives, pneumatic systems, and hydraulic components.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving capability.
  • High technical competence.
  • Good spoken and written communication skills.
  • Strong ability to work as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work rotating shift cycles.
