About the School District

Central Okanagan Public Schools, situated on the traditional territory of the Okanagan syilx peoples, serves approximately 24,000 students, including over 3,000 of Indigenous ancestry. The district spans communities from Peachland to Lake Country, encompassing 50 school sites with a diverse range of educational facilities. Position Summary

The Operations Labourer reports to various Zone Coordinators (Grounds, Mechanical, Electrical) and the Senior Warehouser. This role is crucial for assisting in the maintenance and enhancement of school facilities, equipment, systems, and grounds. The position may require starting work at different locations within the School District.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support the execution of both routine and preventative maintenance for facilities, equipment, systems, and sites.
  • Operate, inspect, and perform minor upkeep on a variety of power tools, hand tools, and small landscaping equipment.
  • Operate machinery such as lawn mowers, tractors, sweepers, and small dump trucks.
  • Perform groundskeeping tasks including grass cutting, tree pruning, shrub planting, weeding, raking, and fertilizing as instructed.
  • Manage the loading and unloading of vehicles, sorting, stacking, and transporting furnishings, equipment, power tools, and materials.
  • Handle the emptying of garbage bins and cleaning of sidewalks.
  • Transport materials, equipment, and debris.
  • Inspect vehicles and trailers, ensuring proper chain and hitch security.
  • Conduct inspections and clear work areas and sites of debris.
  • Undertake seasonal snow removal and ice control operations at District sites.
  • Maintain accurate records and inventories, including logbooks.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12 is required.
  • A minimum of two years of combined experience in maintenance and landscape work is necessary.
  • Proficiency in the use of power tools, hand tools, and small powered landscaping equipment.
  • Experience operating lawn mowers, tractors, sweepers, and small dump trucks.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting tradespeople in a labourer capacity.
  • Current knowledge and experience with British Columbia's construction and maintenance safety regulations, including WCB regulations relevant to the trades industry.
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 Driver's License with an Airbrake Endorsement.
  • A valid Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate is required.

  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel.
  • Willingness to complete all mandatory Health & Safety training.
  • Requirement to maintain a current forklift certification as directed by management.

Assets

  • Education from a recognized trade school.
  • Possession of a First Aid Level 1 or 2 certificate.
