Job description

Role overview

A&L Goodbody (ALG) is looking to appoint a qualified solicitor with 2 to 5 years of post-qualification experience to join its leading EU, Competition & Procurement team, with a strong emphasis on public procurement law. The position offers the chance to build expertise in a highly regarded practice and work on complex matters with significant commercial and strategic importance for both public and private sector clients.

The team

The team combines substantial public and private sector experience across EU, competition and procurement law. It is recognised in Ireland for providing strategic advice and advocacy and for its strong standing in the market. The practice advises a wide range of clients, including domestic and international corporates, as well as state and semi-state organisations.

The procurement group supports contracting authorities, utilities and bidders on high-value, technically complex and strategically important projects across many sectors. The team works closely with other parts of the firm, including Projects & Infrastructure, Construction & Engineering, Corporate, Disputes and Investigations, to provide commercially focused advice throughout the procurement lifecycle.

Collaboration is a core part of the culture at ALG. The firm offers open access to partners and senior lawyers, strong supervision and training, and the opportunity to take real responsibility while contributing to internal knowledge sharing and cross-functional work. The role also includes exposure to major public sector and regulated procurement mandates, supported by the firm’s multidisciplinary Client Technology team and its use of legal technology and contract management tools.

What you will do

  • Guide contracting authorities and utilities on how to structure and run procurement exercises
  • Assist bidders at every stage of the tender process, including strategy, clarification queries and submissions
  • Prepare and review tender materials, framework arrangements and public contract documentation
  • Advise on compliance with EU and Irish procurement rules, including standstill rules and available remedies
  • Handle procurement disputes and litigation before the Irish courts
  • Advise on changes to public contracts and on ongoing contract administration issues
  • Support major strategic matters involving infrastructure, energy, technology and public services
  • Consider how procurement rules interact with wider regulatory regimes, including State aid and the Foreign Subsidies Regulation
  • Prepare and present client training, speaking engagements, presentations and knowledge updates on procurement law developments

Growth and development

ALG is committed to professional development and offers strong progression prospects within an expanding practice. The role includes structured training, close supervision, early ownership of significant matters, direct contact with clients, and opportunities to build a profile through presentations and public speaking. You will join a market-leading team that continues to grow in strength.
