About Akura Medical
Akura Medical, a Shifamed portfolio company, is dedicated to advancing a novel platform for treating venous thromboembolism (VTE). The company has achieved US IDE approval for its QUADRA-PE study, which will assess the Katana™ Thrombectomy System for acute pulmonary embolism patients. Concurrently, Akura Medical is developing NavIQ™, a software solution that converts CT angiograms into 3D pulmonary vascular models. This technology aims to improve visualization, procedural planning, and clot assessment, ultimately enhancing safety, efficacy, and ease of use. Akura has recently secured $53 million in its Series C financing, led by the Qatar Investment Authority. This funding will support the establishment of a joint venture and a new R&D and manufacturing center in Doha, Qatar.

Job Description
Akura Medical, a Shifamed portfolio company, is seeking an entry-level Research and Development Engineer to join its team in Doha, Qatar. This role involves contributing to the design, development, and integration of sophisticated medical imaging systems. The successful candidate will apply their engineering expertise to resolve complex challenges, working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams. A key aspect of this position is driving innovation in imaging technologies that adhere to regulatory standards and improve patient outcomes. This is a full-time, on-site position located at our new R&D facility.
Responsibilities
- Conducting experiments and analyses to assess the performance of medical devices and materials.
- Participating in the creation of new test equipment and methodologies.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure adherence to product specifications.
- Adapting to evolving timelines and priorities in a dynamic work environment.
- Designing fixtures and executing tests for devices currently under development.
- Analyzing and presenting experimental data to inform design decisions.
- Liaising with senior engineers and management to provide project updates and feedback.
- Generating and managing controlled documents, including Test Methods, Test Reports, and SolidWorks parts, assemblies, and drawings.
- Gathering, analyzing, and presenting test data and observations.
- Supporting the Quality Management System and Design Control processes through various tasks.
- Reviewing design control documentation, such as requirements, specifications, test methods, protocols, and reports.
Skills and Experience
- Hands-on laboratory experience in building and/or testing systems.
- Proficiency in using CAD software, specifically SolidWorks.
- Experience with machining and fabricating fixtures and components is advantageous.
- Ability to collect, analyze, and present test data effectively.
- Familiarity with design control documentation review.
Education and Work Experience
- Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in a relevant technical discipline.
- 0-1 years of prior professional experience.
