Job description

Role Overview

United Arab Emirates University’s College of Medicine and Health Sciences is hiring a full-time Research Assistant to support work in rare disease genomics, research data systems, and bioinformatics. The role sits within a multidisciplinary computational research setting and contributes to scientific data handling, analysis support, and research workflows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support genomic and biomedical research activities focused on rare disease and related computational projects.
  • Help manage and structure research datasets, including family-level, sample-level, sequencing-level, and analysis-level information.
  • Assist with bioinformatics workflows such as quality checks, alignment, variant calling, annotation, and interpretation support.
  • Maintain accurate records, documentation, and workflow tracking across research processes.
  • Contribute to internal research platforms, dashboard-based tools, and database-backed scientific applications where needed.
  • Prepare clear summaries, reports, and structured documentation for research teams.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical, computational, and research colleagues in a multidisciplinary environment.

Minimum Qualification

  • A master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Data Science, Biomedical Informatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, or a closely related discipline.
  • Practical exposure to genomic or biomedical data handling and organized data management.
  • Working knowledge of Python and database concepts such as SQL.
  • Understanding of next-generation sequencing pipelines and genomic analysis steps.

Preferred Background

  • Prior experience in rare disease genomics, Mendelian genomics, translational genomics, or biomedical research data systems.
  • Experience supporting internal research platforms, web dashboards, workflow tracking systems, or other database-driven scientific tools.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted tools used for scientific data processing, summarization, and reporting.

Experience and Working Expectations

  • 2 to 3 years of relevant experience in a clinical, research, biomedical, or data systems environment is expected.
  • Strong attention to detail is important for data curation, workflow tracking, and documentation.
  • The position requires the ability to organize complex datasets and produce accurate research records.
  • Good written and spoken communication skills are needed.
  • The candidate should be comfortable working in a team-based research environment and following reproducible data practices.
