Where you'll work

Job description

About the role

This position is part of Aon’s Risk Consulting function in Auckland, where you will work with major corporate and government clients to support better decisions around risk and insurance. The role is suited to someone who enjoys tackling complex business issues, working with data, and turning analysis into practical advice that affects commercial outcomes.

Rather than a routine checklist role, this opportunity involves digging into how organisations operate, evaluating potential risk exposures, and using quantitative methods to help clients make smarter choices about risk transfer, insurance, and financing strategies.

What you’ll do

  • Examine complicated business challenges and break them into clear analytical components.
  • Measure and model risk exposure across organisations.
  • Estimate possible financial impacts and loss scenarios using data-driven methods.
  • Help clients understand how risk influences business performance and profitability.
  • Contribute to improved risk financing and insurance strategy recommendations.
  • Work on consulting engagements that support more effective and innovative risk management approaches.

Key responsibilities

  • Collaborate with an experienced team on client consulting assignments.
  • Assess organisational exposure to risk and interpret findings in a business context.
  • Create models that help quantify losses and potential financial consequences.
  • Translate analytical work into insights that guide insurance and risk financing decisions.
  • Support client discussions with commercially relevant, practical advice.

What the role requires

The ideal candidate may come from consulting, analytics, finance, engineering with a research focus, or another environment where structured problem-solving is central. A strong interest in business, data, and decision-making is important, along with the ability to work confidently with clients and stakeholders.

  • Strong analytical thinking and a systematic approach to solving problems.
  • Ability to simplify complex issues into logical steps.
  • Comfort using data to identify patterns, draw conclusions, and build a narrative.
  • Commercial awareness and curiosity about how businesses generate value and manage risk.
  • Ability to connect analysis to practical business outcomes.
  • Solid technical capability with tools such as Excel, Python, SQL, or similar.
  • Experience with data handling, modelling, and quantitative analysis.
  • Clear communication skills and confidence presenting insights to others.
  • Ability to engage effectively with clients and stakeholders.
  • Curiosity, initiative, and a desire to keep developing expertise in risk and insurance.
  • A relevant degree in finance, economics, engineering, mathematics, science, or a closely related discipline is typically expected.
  • Background in a relevant analytical, consulting, or commercial role is typically sought.

Why this opportunity stands out

You’ll be working on meaningful, high-impact challenges for large organisations while combining data, finance, and strategy in a commercially focused setting. The role offers a chance to deepen your expertise in risk and insurance, develop strong client-facing experience, and grow within a collaborative, capable team.
