Role overview

This position focuses on preventing losses, improving safety, and ensuring that the business meets health, safety, and compliance obligations. The role is built around reducing threats before they become problems and limiting the impact of risks that cannot be completely avoided.

Key responsibilities

  • Build and apply a method for identifying risks and assessing the financial effect of losses on the business, employees, the public, and the environment.
  • Evaluate practical and cost-conscious ways to balance retention strategies with commercial insurance coverage.
  • Develop risk management and insurance budgets, and assign claim expenses and premium costs to the appropriate departments and divisions.
  • Maintain accurate records such as insurance policies, claim histories, and loss reports.
  • Support the review of major contracts, planned facilities, and new business activities for insurance and loss-related implications.
  • Oversee stock loss, shrinkage, and security matters.

Policies, procedures, and legal compliance

  • Ensure full adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Confirm that the store complies with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Coach managers continuously and help implement corrective actions linked to risk findings.
  • Investigate discrepancies and provide recommendations for corrective steps.
  • Identify required legislative training for stores and notify HR and Learning & Development to take action.
  • Develop and maintain risk management policies and procedures.

Investigations

  • Carry out investigations into criminal activity in line with internal processes and legal requirements.
  • Prepare investigation reports and monitor patterns or trends affecting the business.
  • Use appropriate tools such as polygraph testing and interviews to help resolve cases.
  • Ensure cases are followed up promptly and brought to closure.
  • Liaise regularly with the risk management team, store operations, and legal teams on active cases.

Risk assessments

  • Perform quarterly risk assessments across stores and warehouses to identify exposure areas and apply corrective actions.
  • Recommend ways to reduce losses linked to criminal activity, including internal risks such as cash-handling theft, stock manipulation, inventory control issues, facility and equipment damage, security access breaches, and fraud.
  • Also address external risks such as shoplifting, vandalism, counterfeiting, robbery, and store safety concerns, in coordination with the Loss Prevention Manager.
  • Review risk audit findings and help implement the recommended actions.

Operating standards

  • Follow all relevant operating procedures and instructions to ensure work is completed in a controlled, consistent way.
  • Audit compliance with operational procedures and instructions.
