Job Purpose

The Screener role is centered on the safe and efficient inspection of checked baggage. The position ensures that screening is carried out in line with regulatory requirements and that prohibited items or security risks are identified and addressed promptly. The job also involves operating screening systems, recording outcomes, coordinating with security teams, and handling passenger interactions with professionalism.

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will be responsible for baggage screening, threat identification, compliance, equipment checks, coordination with stakeholders, and ensuring smooth and timely operations.

  • Attend all mandatory regulatory trainings and clear the required assessments within the permitted attempts.
  • Use X-BIS equipment to review baggage images and identify dangerous goods, prohibited articles, weapons, or ammunition in line with AVSEC circulars, orders, guidelines, and SOPs.
  • Carry out physical inspections and ETD checks for baggage that is flagged during X-ray screening.
  • Maintain strong TIP (Threat Image Projection) scores, demonstrating solid image interpretation skills.
  • Follow BCAS and DGCA rules carefully to ensure full compliance during baggage handling and inspection.
  • Document observations, actions, and screening outcomes accurately to support audit and inspection needs.
  • Perform routine pre-operational checks of X-BIS, ETD, CT-EDS, and other security systems to confirm they are functional and ready for use.
  • Report faults, interruptions, or downtime in equipment and support the upkeep of operational logs/registers.
  • Coordinate closely with CISF and airline teams during physical checks or when suspicious items need to be resolved.
  • Keep supervisors informed in a timely manner about operational updates or issues that may require escalation.
  • Complete baggage screening and inspection within strict turnaround times to prevent delays in airport operations.
  • Balance speed with thoroughness so that safety is never compromised while maintaining operational flow.
  • Maintain professionalism, discipline, and a positive working approach at all times.
  • Adhere to company policies and workplace conduct expectations consistently.

Stakeholders

Internal: CSO, Lead AVSEC Audit & Compliance, Pass Section, Lead - ILHBS / Duty Manager - ILHBS / Sr Screener, Terminal Operations, IT, HR Department, Compliance and Regulatory Teams, and other airport departments such as Operations and Customer Service.

External: TSA, aircraft operators, airport authorities, passengers, ASG, BCAS, local police, service providers, law enforcement agencies, regulatory bodies, and industry associations.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should have completed high school or an equivalent qualification. A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent degree is also acceptable.

A TSA certification is required. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed the BCAS AVSEC basic course, BCAS standalone or inline screener certification, and DGR CAT 12 certification from a DGCA-approved training center.

NCC “C” or “B” certificate holders will be preferred.

Freshers may apply, and candidates with 1 to 2 years of experience in security screening or a related area, especially within an airport environment, are also suitable. Prior experience using screening equipment and working with security procedures will be an advantage.

Physical Requirements

  • Visual standards require eyesight of 20/60 or better in both eyes without glasses or lenses, or 20/20 in one eye and 20/30 in the other when using corrective lenses.
  • Adequate colour perception is necessary.
  • Hearing loss in each ear must be below 30 dB on audiograph testing for frequencies under 2000 Hz.
  • The candidate must be able to communicate clearly and effectively by speech.
  • There should be no significant limitation in movement or crisis communication ability.
  • The individual should be able to detect odour through the sense of smell.
  • Strong deportment is expected, including civility, a neat appearance, sobriety, and courteous conduct toward the public.
