About the role
This is a career opportunity in Cairns that combines practical conservation work with a coastal tropical lifestyle. The position sits within a supportive team environment and offers a mix of office-based coordination and occasional time in the field. The role includes competitive pay and superannuation, and it is positioned as a meaningful opportunity to support diversity, inclusion and connection to Country.
Role overview
As a Senior Ranger (Estates), you will deliver senior-level technical guidance and supervise a small team involved in the administration and care of protected areas across Queensland, including national parks, state forests and reserves. A key part of the job is handling land tenure matters and reviewing applications for activities on state land, making sure outcomes comply with legislation, policy and conservation priorities.
You will also guide and support staff, develop productive working relationships with stakeholders such as Traditional Owners, landholders and industry partners, and contribute to planning, emergency response and recovery work. The position also involves preparing reports and briefing material, coordinating projects and budgets, and supporting the delivery of programs across a wide geographic area.
