The role sits within a modern, agile environment where the organisation is investing in cloud, virtualisation, containerisation, and automation technologies. It offers the chance to work on meaningful, highly visible initiatives while also helping uplift engineering practices across the bank.
This is a hybrid position requiring three days each week in the office.
What You'll Do
- Lead delivery of complex technical work, ensuring outcomes are delivered with the right balance of speed, quality, and strategic fit.
- Take part in on-call coverage and production support for the domain, helping keep services reliable and responding effectively to incidents.
- Design and build resilient, scalable solutions using advanced engineering thinking, while considering long-term maintainability and operational impact.
- Work through ambiguous problems, define the challenge clearly, and recommend practical, effective approaches.
- Support and guide others in system design and problem solving.
- Build strong working relationships across teams and influence technical direction through clear communication and thoughtful challenge.
- Contribute to BNZ’s migration from on-premises infrastructure to AWS New Zealand, with a focus on making the transition smooth, dependable, and repeatable for customers.
- Mentor engineers and help shape how cloud services are built, deployed, and operated across the bank.
- Help bridge AWS and Azure teams by encouraging alignment where it adds value.
What We're Looking For
- Experience using AWS and Azure in an enterprise setting in a senior technical specialist or similar capacity.
- Hands-on exposure to workflow automation tools such as Ansible, Ansible Tower, Jenkins, and Terraform.
- Knowledge of software and content management platforms including Satellite, SCCM, Active Directory, Group Policy, and DNS.
- Strong background in infrastructure across physical bare-metal and virtual environments, along with familiarity with public cloud services.
- Understanding of application security principles and techniques.
- Experience with infrastructure builds, application server setup, configuration, and automation.
- Ability to apply security controls and standards such as OAuth 2.0, TLS, certificates, keystore, and truststore concepts.
- Working knowledge of REST APIs, JSON, TCP/IP, and load balancing.
- Comfortable working in DevOps, Agile, Scrum, and Kanban environments.
- Curious mindset with interest in emerging technologies and trends.
- Team-oriented approach with a desire to share knowledge and lift the capability of others.
- Strong troubleshooting ability, especially for performance issues and continuous improvement opportunities.
