Job description
Role overview
We are seeking support workers for roles available in Wellington Central and Lower Hutt. This position involves rostered shifts, and you need to be ready to work across daytime, evening, weekend, and overnight hours. The role offers the opportunity to earn while you learn and work toward nationally recognised qualifications.
What the role involves
As a support worker, you will help people build greater independence and strengthen everyday living skills. The support provided will vary depending on each person’s needs and may include transport, support with employment and finances, meal preparation, shopping, cleaning, showering, and giving medication. The work can involve physically demanding situations, so you will need to be fit, resilient, and confident in handling risk and responding calmly when challenges arise.
Benefits
You will be paid between $24.68 and $30.13 per hour depending on relevant qualifications, with the opportunity to increase your pay as you complete more qualifications. The organisation supports staff through Level 2, 3, and 4 Certificates in Health and Wellbeing. Other benefits include long service leave, insurance benefits after two years of service, a refer-a-friend bonus programme, and free access to an employee assistance programme for health and wellbeing support.
What you need to bring
No previous experience in the health and disability sector is required. What matters most is a genuine interest in becoming a support worker, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn. Full training and induction will be provided to suitable candidates.
- You must be available for flexible shifts, including weekends and sleepover duties.
- You should be comfortable using computers and tablets every day.
- Strong spoken and written communication skills are important.
- You need to be physically fit enough to provide hands-on support.
- A full New Zealand driver licence is required.
About the employer
The employer supports adults with intellectual disabilities so they can live in their own homes and participate fully in their communities. It is the country’s largest provider of services for people with intellectual disabilities and their families, and its work is guided by a commitment to helping people live good lives as valued members of their communities.
