About the Role

Silver Fern Farms Waitane is the company’s most southerly ovine processing facility. Based a short drive south of Gore, the site processes lamb, sheep, and bobby calves gathered from the Southland and Otago regions. With a peak workforce of 220 people, it plays an important role in the local community as a major employer.

Working Arrangements

• You will complete on-the-job training and receive a starting rate of at least $28.82 per hour, plus additional extras.
• During peak season, the role usually offers around 40 hours per week, with overtime available.
• Production overtime is paid at a minimum rate of $43 per hour.
• Shifts are 8 hours on day shift, with start times varying by department.
• Work clothing and safety equipment are supplied.

What You’ll Be Doing

The role involves hands-on meat processing work in a team environment, following production standards, quality expectations, and safety procedures. You’ll be expected to work closely with others and contribute positively to daily operations.

Requirements

• No previous experience is needed, as full training will be provided.
• You should be a reliable and active team player with a positive and hardworking attitude.
• You must be able to understand and follow health and safety rules, quality standards, and technical compliance requirements.
• You must be legally allowed to work in New Zealand.
• You need to be able to pass pre-employment medical checks, a criminal convictions check, and physical fitness requirements.

Preferred Experience

• Knife handling experience.
• Trimming experience.
• A current forklift licence.
