Role overview
The company is seeking a skilled Technical Writer to support the Engineering function in Corvallis, Oregon. In this role, you will connect advanced engineering work with the people who use the products, turning complex technical processes into clear, practical documentation that improves user success and product understanding.
Job summary
This position focuses on producing, updating, and refining documentation for OptiTrack products as well as internal workflows. You will partner closely with engineering, support, QA, product management, and marketing to create accurate, easy-to-follow materials that help customers deploy and use products effectively while also strengthening internal knowledge sharing and process efficiency.
Key responsibilities
- Act as the main owner for technical documentation across OptiTrack products.
- Develop and continuously improve customer documentation such as user manuals, knowledge base content, release notes, installation instructions, troubleshooting guides, SDK/API references, and developer-focused materials.
- Prepare and maintain internal resources including support playbooks, engineering documentation, training content, and organizational knowledge assets.
- Work with engineering and support teams to document new products, features, workflows, and best practices.
- Collect information from subject matter experts and convert detailed technical ideas into concise, reader-friendly content.
- Structure and maintain documentation systems and workflows using platforms like GitBook, Confluence, and Jira.
- Review existing content regularly to keep it accurate, consistent, and aligned with product updates.
- Ensure documentation follows internal security expectations and data privacy standards.
- Help shape documentation standards, writing style rules, and knowledge management processes.
- Create supporting visuals such as screenshots, diagrams, tutorials, and instructional videos when useful.
- Be open to occasional travel as needed.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of experience in technical writing or a closely related field.
- Excellent written communication skills with exceptional precision and attention to detail.
- Background in documenting software, hardware, or other sophisticated technical products.
- Comfort working with engineers and other technical subject matter experts.
- Hands-on experience with documentation and collaboration tools such as GitBook, Confluence, and Jira.
- Working knowledge of Git and other collaborative version control/documentation environments.
- Ability to juggle multiple priorities and projects in a fast-moving setting.
- Preferred exposure to OptiTrack products and motion capture workflows.
- Experience in motion capture, animation, virtual production, robotics, biomechanics, or a related industry is advantageous.
- Familiarity with 3D tools such as Maya, MotionBuilder, Blender, Unreal Engine, or Unity is a plus.
- Experience creating video-based training content or multimedia documentation is valued.
- Knowledge of video editing and content creation tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Camtasia, or After Effects is desirable.
Physical requirements
The role is based in a professional office setting and requires sitting for extended periods while using standard office equipment. It also involves repetitive hand, wrist, and finger movements for keyboard use, along with the visual ability to inspect detailed technical diagrams and software code.
