Role overview
This full-time Utility Worker position is based at The University of Alabama in Huntsville (56015015) in Huntsville, AL. The role supports food service and facility operations by keeping kitchens and related areas clean, sanitary, and organized.
Work schedule
Shifts and workdays vary, with days and hours changing as needed. Having open availability is preferred, and more schedule details are shared during the interview process.
Compensation
Pay for this role ranges from $7.25 to $21.30 per hour.
What the job involves
In this position, you will help maintain cleanliness and order across food preparation, service, and storage spaces. Tasks may include cleaning equipment and surfaces, handling dishes, moving supplies, and supporting setup and cleanup activities. Duties can change depending on site needs and client requirements.
Primary duties
- Wash dishes either manually or by using a dishwasher.
- Sanitize worktables, walls, refrigerators, and meat blocks.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and otherwise clean floors.
- Carry trash and garbage to the proper disposal areas.
- Use designated cleaning chemicals to keep equipment sanitary.
- Restock essentials such as soap, paper towels, and cleaning materials.
- Support basic setup and breakdown activities when assigned.
- Perform other related duties as needed based on business and client demands.
Physical expectations
This role requires substantial walking and standing throughout the shift, which may last longer than 8 hours. The work also involves frequent reaching, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling, along with lifting up to 35 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
What you need
A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience is required. No previous related work experience is necessary. You should also have a working understanding of sanitation practices and basic food safety concepts.
Additional information
University students who have limits on the number of hours they may work, including international students, should apply for student worker openings at their own school rather than this role.
