Job description
Role Overview
This position is for a Women’s Outerwear Designer based in Midtown Manhattan’s Fashion District in New York City. It is an on-site role within the Contemporary Outerwear department and reports to the Director of Design.

Design and Development
- Produce hand-drawn sketches and Illustrator flats to support product development.
- Build complete design packages, including tech packs and line sheets, and keep them updated.
- Investigate each season’s trim direction and source fresh fabric options.
- Own tech pack preparation and maintenance from the earliest concept phase through bulk production.
- Keep development assets organized, including artwork, trims, fabric worksheets, development samples, finalized tech packs, and line lists.
- Participate in fittings with Technical Design and revise tech packs based on fit and construction feedback.
- Submit and obtain approval for artwork, strike-offs, wash panels, lab dips, and related submissions.
- Create fast, accurate CAD presentations for both internal and external audiences.
Production and Overseas Coordination
- Build and manage charts used for overseas sample requests.
- Maintain regular daily communication with factories on product development status.
- Organize samples for meetings and market appointments.
- Input PLM information and develop BOMs for production.
- Coordinate domestic and international development activities to stay aligned with calendars and delivery schedules.
Candidate Profile
- Hands-on technical ability with a strong grasp of garment construction and outerwear development.
- Highly organized, detail-focused, and capable of juggling several priorities at once.
- Comfortable in a fast-moving, deadline-heavy environment with a large SKU volume.
- Strong communicator who can build effective relationships across internal teams and overseas partners.
- Thrives in a high-energy, fashion-speed setting and can work without close supervision.
- Able to manage multiple deadlines independently and consistently.
Qualifications
- At least 5 years of professional experience in apparel design.
- A college degree in Fashion Design, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
- Prior experience working in a high-SKU environment.
- Strong understanding of apparel styles, components, construction, and the full development cycle.
- Experience handling apparel timelines, calendars, and production workflows.
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, MS Excel, and Microsoft Office.
- Advanced Excel ability, including data manipulation, pivot tables, and VLOOKUP.
- Working knowledge of PLM platforms and BOM creation.
- Strong written and spoken communication skills.
Compensation and Benefits
