About the Team
Global Banking and Markets Engineering (GBME) represents the innovative, fast-paced technology division that supports Scotiabank’s Corporate, Investment Banking, and Capital Markets sectors.
Role Overview
We are looking for Software Engineers specializing in Python and PL-SQL who are passionate continuous learners and eager to enhance capital markets products along with analytics platforms, focusing particularly on the Risk and Margin platform within Prime Services Technology.
The ideal candidate possesses a strong technical background and engineering approach, collaborating closely with business units and cross-functional engineering leaders to create and execute advanced market solutions across GBME projects.

Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with end users and business teams to gather business requirements, perform gap analyses, and assess needs.
- Partner with the Architecture team to design solutions and integrations.
- Create, enhance, and maintain both new and existing applications and solutions.
- Participate in the entire project lifecycle, from drafting detailed specifications to writing production-level code and deploying implementations.
- Design and implement database schemas effectively.
- Develop and automate comprehensive test cases, including functional, non-functional, regression, and performance testing.
- Write scripts for deployment and utilize CI/CD tools such as the Accelerator pipeline for code promotion.
- Provide production support for solutions when necessary.
- Enhance user experience by developing scalable solutions and handling complex ad hoc queries.
- Communicate proficiently with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Work with and refactor legacy code when required.
- Coach and train end-users as needed.
- Participate in and lead SCRUM meetings as necessary.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 4 years of recent backend development experience utilizing Python and PL/SQL.
- Proficient with database systems and SQL across platforms such as Postgres, MSSQL, or Oracle.
- Hands-on experience with Python and batch scripting within Windows environments.
- Experienced working in an Agile environment with familiarity in Test-Driven Development practices.
- A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Understanding of Capital Markets operations, including Front, Middle, and Back office workflows.
- Experience with messaging frameworks like IBM MQ, Kafka, or Redis.
- Background in developing real-time, high-availability, low-latency systems.
- Experience working on Java multi-threaded applications.
