Role Overview
Join our team as a SQL Database Developer tasked with designing and maintaining complex SQL Server databases for enterprise healthcare applications. You'll focus on database schema optimization, performance tuning, scalability enhancements, and supporting healthcare data integrations compliant with industry standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect, develop, and upkeep sophisticated SQL Server databases tailored for healthcare workflows including patient, provider, clinical, and operational data.
- Create and optimize database components such as schemas, tables, indexes, views, stored procedures, functions, and triggers to meet business needs.
- Troubleshoot and resolve performance issues by refining T-SQL code, analyzing execution plans, and implementing effective indexing strategies.
- Ensure database scalability by assessing limitations, planning capacity, and implementing partitioning, archiving, and caching strategies for high concurrency and transaction volumes.
- Collaborate with architects to drive database modernization efforts supporting platform growth and feature expansions.
- Develop and optimize ETL processes and database designs supporting healthcare interoperability initiatives like FHIR standards.
- Work with APIs and integration teams to facilitate efficient data access and support data governance and security compliance.
- Support reporting and analytics through designing reporting databases, crafting scalable SQL-based solutions, and enhancing Power BI initiatives.
- Enforce database security best practices, manage access controls, encryption measures, and ensure adherence to HIPAA and other privacy regulations.
- Participate actively in audits and compliance reviews to maintain data security standards.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 8 years experience in SQL Server development with 5+ years on enterprise-scale applications.
- Proven expertise in managing high-volume transactional systems and large datasets with a track record of performance tuning and optimization.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server versions 2016, 2019, and 2022.
- Advanced T-SQL programming skills, including stored procedures, views, triggers, functions, and query optimization.
- Experience with index tuning, database performance monitoring, execution plan analysis, locking/blocking analysis, deadlock resolution, partitioning, capacity planning, high availability, and disaster recovery.
- Competency in SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), ETL development, REST API data integrations, data migration strategies, continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) for database deployments.
- Familiarity with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Power BI, operational reporting, and data warehousing concepts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Healthcare industry experience with knowledge of HL7 and FHIR standards.
- Experience working with Electronic Health Record (EHR/EMR) platforms and care management or population health systems.
- Expertise in Azure SQL, cloud database architectures, and using Azure Data Factory or modern data platform technologies.
