Job Overview
This remote Python Developer role is focused on backend engineering and helping improve next-generation AI systems through real-world testing and feedback. You will use your Python expertise to build scalable APIs, strengthen backend reliability, and evaluate AI-assisted coding tools. Prior AI experience is not required; strong domain knowledge and solid development practice are the key priorities.
Core Responsibilities
- Build, refine, and maintain scalable backend endpoints using REST and GraphQL.
- Apply strong data checks, robust error handling, and security-minded practices across backend services.
- Carry out database changes such as migrations, schema updates, and performance improvements when needed.
- Test AI-enabled models in Cursor and share practical feedback through bug reports, incident notes, and screenshots.
- Take part in focused 4-day testing cycles to observe how AI models affect day-to-day coding work.
- Collaborate with the research team in a private Slack channel to discuss observations and suggest improvements.
- Complete post-testing surveys with detailed feedback on model quality and developer experience.
Required Background
- At least 3 years of professional backend development experience, with deep Python knowledge.
- Strong hands-on experience creating and supporting RESTful and GraphQL APIs.
- Solid grasp of backend validation, exception handling, and API security practices.
- Practical experience with database migrations, schema planning, and performance tuning.
- Frequent use of AI tools in coding work; experience with Cursor is an advantage.
- Clear written and spoken communication skills for documenting issues and sharing feedback.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-moving, confidential, and collaborative remote setup.
Preferred Profile
- Evidence of open-source involvement, such as contributions or recognized GitHub activity.
- Experience building or reviewing experimental developer tools and workflows.
- Strong interest in recent developments in AI and software engineering.
