Opportunity
Beca is expanding its presence in the region and is seeking an experienced Senior Engineering Geologist or Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join the Hamilton team. The position is centred on geotechnical asset management and offers varied work with new technical challenges each day.
What you will do
- Use your technical judgment and expertise to shape and deliver projects from start to finish.
- Prepare project plans, reports, proposals, and technical specifications aligned with client needs.
- Carry out desk-based site and area assessments, including review of aerial imagery and published sources, to support investigation and design decisions.
- Plan and coordinate field investigations, including engagement of drilling contractors and laboratory testing, to improve understanding of a site, region, hazard, or risk.
- Lead site work such as field mapping, drilling supervision, borehole logging, sampling, monitoring, hand augering, and test pit logging.
- Create 2D and 3D ground models from available information to support problem solving and design.
- Perform computer-based analysis and interpretation, including slope stability modelling.
- Attend site inspections for natural hazard conditions and respond to slip events, then advise clients and develop remediation solutions to meet project goals.
- Communicate technical outputs clearly in both written and verbal form.
- Manage projects through the full lifecycle, including scoping, scheduling, resourcing, and delivery against programme and budget.
- Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams across work packages.
- Develop strong relationships internally and externally, and support senior leaders in winning additional work.
About you
You are a qualified Engineering Geologist, ideally with a relevant postgraduate qualification, or a Geotechnical Engineer who enjoys solving complex problems. A recent graduate programme completion in a consulting or contracting environment would be an advantage. The role suits someone with curiosity, lateral thinking, enthusiasm, and a strong willingness to keep learning from experienced colleagues.
