Role overview

This position sits at the centre of the West Apron Vehicle Underpass project at Dublin Airport. The successful engineer will help plan, coordinate, and deliver structural works on a major infrastructure scheme, working under the guidance of the Site Agent – Structures. The job focuses on making sure all structural activities are completed safely, in line with drawings, technical specifications, programme milestones, and the operational demands of a live airport environment.

What the role involves

• Setting out and supervising structural construction activities such as reinforced concrete, foundations, steelwork, and related works.
• Making sure site execution follows contract drawings, specifications, and technical standards.
• Supporting site teams and subcontractors with engineering input during delivery.
• Working through site-based technical issues in coordination with design and commercial colleagues.
• Maintaining Inspection and Test Plans for structural packages and ensuring quality requirements are met.
• Carrying out inspections, checks, and surveys, while keeping accurate as-built records.
• Handling non-conformances and follow-up corrective actions for structural work.
• Ensuring compliance with HSEQ requirements, site safety rules, and airport operational regulations.
• Promoting safe working methods and verifying that method statements and risk assessments are followed.
• Supporting safety audits, toolbox talks, and site briefings.
• Helping the Site Agent manage the programme for structural works.
• Coordinating with subcontractors, suppliers, and plant operations to support programme targets.
• Liaising with civils, M&E, and architectural teams to support integrated delivery.
• Identifying constraints early and helping put mitigation measures in place.
• Keeping detailed site records, including diaries, progress updates, and technical queries.
• Preparing and closing out RFIs, technical submittals, and as-built documentation.
• Reporting progress regularly to the Site Agent – Structures.
• Supporting handover documentation and project close-out activities.

Essential requirements

• Legal permission to work in the Republic of Ireland.
• Willingness to complete a 5-year background screening as part of hiring.
• A degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
• Proven experience in construction engineering with a structures focus.
• Strong knowledge of reinforced concrete and steel structures.
• Background on large infrastructure or other complex construction projects.
• Good understanding of structural engineering principles and construction sequencing.
• Ability to read, interpret, and apply structural drawings and specifications.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability.
• High attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality.
• Effective communication skills for working with site teams, subcontractors, and management.
• Comfortable working in a live aviation environment with strict operational constraints.

Desirable experience

• Previous exposure to airport, aviation, or other high-security live environments.
• Familiarity with Irish and UK standards, including Eurocodes and IS EN standards.
• Safe Pass and airport security clearances, or the ability to obtain them.
• Progress toward Chartered Engineer status such as CEng or CEng MIEI.
