Role overview
This position is for a software engineer contributing to a fast-paced Java microservices environment with multiple user interfaces. The team works in a feature-driven model, collaborates closely across functions, and expects engineers to take part in shaping technical direction. The role also involves frequent engagement with mission stakeholders and direct customer interaction.

What you'll do
- Build and support Java-based microservice web applications.
- Partner with the technical lead on architecture choices and roadmap planning.
- Tackle complex design and debugging challenges across the software stack.
- Work with customers to troubleshoot problems and suggest new capabilities.
- Assist with testing and releasing production systems.
Required background
Applicants should have hands-on experience with Java design and debugging, RESTful applications, Spring Boot, MongoDB or a comparable database platform, and automated testing.
Preferred experience
- Exposure to full-stack development, including UI work with JavaScript and Vue.js.
- Working knowledge of Kafka.
- Strong written and spoken communication skills.
- Familiarity with Linux administration.
- Experience with build automation, CI, and CD pipelines.
Qualifications
A minimum of 3 years of experience is required. A bachelor's degree in a technical field is preferred; alternatively, 4 additional years of relevant experience may be accepted in place of the degree.
Compensation and benefits
The stated annual salary range is $163,000 to $199,000. Final pay may vary depending on experience, location, and contract requirements. Benefits include 24 days of PTO accrued each year, 11 federal holidays, full employee healthcare coverage, 50% dependent healthcare coverage, a 401(k) plan that is fully vested from day one with a company contribution equal to 10% of salary, and educational support for college coursework plus job-related training and certifications.
