Role overview
Switch Al Maghrib - SWAM is hiring an early-career Software Developer for a full-time hybrid role in Melbourne, Victoria. The position combines office-based work with the flexibility of working from home part of the time. The selected candidate will support the build and upkeep of back-end web applications and internal tools while working closely with senior developers.
What you will do
In this role, you will write and improve code, assist with testing, help resolve bugs, and take part in code reviews. You will also contribute to technical documentation, work with cross-functional teammates to clarify needs, and support the delivery of new features. A key part of the job is learning practical software development and deployment methods in a guided, team-oriented environment.
What we are looking for
This opportunity is suited to someone at the beginning of their software career who is ready to build strong fundamentals. You should have a good grasp of computer science basics, including data structures, algorithms, and core software engineering ideas. Experience with at least one modern programming language such as Java, C#, Python, or JavaScript is expected, along with an understanding of APIs, databases, and server-side frameworks.
You should also be comfortable with object-oriented programming, follow coding standards, and respond positively to feedback. Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and the willingness to produce reliable, testable code are important. Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate in both on-site and remote settings are also needed. Familiarity with Git and common development workflows is useful, and exposure to agile methods will be an advantage.
Eligibility and background
Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent training in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or have relevant practical experience instead.
