About the Role

Key Responsibilities

Analyze, design, develop, and document new and existing applications and systems.
Collaborate with project teams to clarify technical requirements and develop technical designs based on enterprise architecture standards.
Engage in coding, unit testing, debugging, documenting, and implementing applications and scripts.
Estimate and plan development efforts for various projects and feature enhancements.
Maintain, support, and improve existing applications.
Participate in code reviews during release activities.
Deploy code to non-production and production environments.
Lead production issue investigation including root cause analysis for production and implementation concerns.
Advise on best practices and suggest improvements aligned with the bank’s technology roadmap.
Work closely with product owners and business analysts to understand current system behaviors and propose enhancements.
Incorporate the bank's risk appetite and culture into daily decisions and activities.
Ensure compliance with Scotiabank’s values, Code of Conduct, Global Sales Principles, and operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanction, and conduct risk controls.

Qualifications and Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred.
Three to five years of hands-on experience in systems analysis, design, software development, unit testing, and debugging.
Proficiency in Core Java (version 8 or higher) and Python programming languages.
Strong knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
Experience with GIT, Gradle, Jira, Confluence or equivalent tools supporting CI/CD pipelines.
Familiarity working in agile development environments.
Working knowledge of Spring framework components such as Spring Boot, Spring Security, Spring Data Repositories, or Spring Batch.
Expertise with Web Services technologies including SOAP and REST; experience with tools like STS Spring Tools or Eclipse IDE.
Understanding of SSL protocols and secure handshake configurations between applications.
Experience developing and deploying cloud solutions, including platforms such as Google Cloud and Splunk.
Oracle Certified Java Developer certification is considered an asset.
Technical familiarity with event-driven architectures, including Kafka components like brokers and connectors.
Previous experience in the banking or financial services industry is preferred.
Knowledge of SoapUI for API testing.
Experience working on cloud computing platforms.
