Role overview
Calian is hiring a Physiotherapist for the Canadian Forces Health Services Centre in Comox, British Columbia. The role involves providing assessment, consultation, and treatment within the physiotherapy department through booked appointments and walk-ins, as well as in the Care Delivery Unit through sick parade and consultation, all within a collaborative care model. The patient population is generally highly active and committed to recovery.
Key responsibilities
- Provide physiotherapy and rehabilitation care using evidence-based methods and practices aligned with professional standards and scope of practice.
- Manage an orthopedic caseload of about 12 to 15 patients daily, including approximately 8 to 10 new assessments each week and typically 2 follow-up visits per hour.
- Assess and treat neuro-musculoskeletal concerns, especially those linked to sports injuries, training injuries, workplace incidents, and accidents.
- Explain procedures clearly and obtain informed consent before assessment and treatment.
- Deliver screening assessments, patient education, and orthoses guidance in direct-access settings such as CDU walk-ins.
- Prescribe exercise programs that support rehabilitation, injury prevention, and fitness improvement.
- Use manual therapy and soft tissue techniques for conditions affecting muscles, joints, scars, circulation, lymphatics, and related issues.
- Apply pain management approaches, which may include acupuncture-based needling below the dermis.
- Provide ergonomics education and conduct on-site workplace assessments when required.
- Educate patients and health care team members on injury prevention, health promotion, and related physiotherapy topics.
- Carry out biomechanical foot assessments, including orthotic fitting and fabrication.
- Help design, prepare, and deliver clinic programs that support education and rehabilitation, such as proprioceptive rehab, reintegration, and back-pain self-management programs.
- Participate in interdisciplinary care planning through case presentations, clinical rounds, patient conferences, and follow-up scheduling.
- Maintain accurate daily clinical notes and records in line with Canadian Forces and provincial regulatory documentation requirements.
Qualifications and requirements
- Active physiotherapy license in good standing in British Columbia.
- At least 7 years of experience in orthopaedics or sports medicine.
- Either a Diploma of Advanced Orthopedic Manual and Manipulative Therapy or a Diploma of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (McKenzie).
- Ability to obtain a Government Security Clearance at the Reliability level.
- A security clearance and/or vulnerable sector screening may be required for the role.

Compensation
