Job description

Role Overview

This position is responsible for overseeing plant and machinery operations for construction projects, with a focus on equipment planning, safe usage, upkeep, compliance, and cost efficiency. The role works closely with project and site teams to ensure machinery is available when needed and operated effectively.

Plant and Machinery Planning

  • Organize and allocate construction equipment and machinery according to project timelines and execution needs.
  • Ensure timely availability and effective use of assets such as cranes, hydras, excavators, loaders, forklifts, DG sets, and lifting accessories.
  • Track equipment productivity and usage levels to reduce unnecessary idle time.

Operations, Maintenance and Safety

  • Oversee the safe handling and operation of all plant and machinery in accordance with manufacturer instructions and site-level safety requirements.
  • Plan and coordinate preventive servicing, breakdown support, and routine maintenance for equipment.
  • Make sure statutory approvals, fitness certificates, and third-party inspection records remain current.

Site Coordination and Support

  • Work with construction, planning, and execution teams to understand and fulfill equipment requirements.
  • Coordinate with vendors, rental agencies, and service partners for hiring, repairs, and maintenance support.
  • Assist with movement of equipment during mobilization and demobilization across project locations.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain machine logs, usage statements, maintenance records, and breakdown documentation.
  • Prepare and share daily and monthly plant and machinery utilization reports with project leadership.
  • Record fuel usage and operating-related expenses for each machine or asset.

Cost Management and Optimization

  • Control equipment rental, fuel, and maintenance spends.
  • Look for practical ways to improve cost efficiency through better deployment and planning.

Compliance and Inspection

  • Ensure all P&M activities follow legal requirements, safety norms, and organizational policies.
  • Coordinate scheduled inspections and audits connected to plant and machinery.

Operator and Team Management

  • Coordinate with operators and drivers to ensure only trained and authorized personnel handle equipment.
  • Review operator performance and enforce adherence to safety and operational standards.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should hold a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or an equivalent discipline. The role requires 5 to 8 years of experience in plant and machinery management, preferably in EPC, solar, or infrastructure projects.
