Role overview
Hyatt Regency Harare is seeking a Purchasing Clerk to support procurement activities for its hospitality operations. The role focuses on sourcing dependable suppliers, keeping costs under control, and ensuring purchased food items and other supplies meet required standards on arrival.
Key duties
- Shortlist and assess suppliers using criteria such as pricing, product quality, and delivery timelines.
- Study market movements and internal consumption patterns to help prevent shortages or overstocking.
- Build relationships with dependable vendors, obtain competitive quotes, and negotiate supply agreements.
- Issue RFQs to approved suppliers and work through pricing and delivery terms.
- Inspect incoming food deliveries to confirm they match specifications, including freshness, temperature, and quantity.
- Check that received food products comply with health, safety, and quality expectations.
- Keep stock under review and coordinate deliveries so kitchen operations do not experience supply gaps.
- Monitor supplier performance and maintain accurate purchasing and inventory records.
- Review invoices, watch price changes, and work with management, including Executive Chefs, to reduce purchasing costs.
Requirements
- Higher National Diploma in Purchasing and Supply Management, or a closely related discipline.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in the hospitality industry.
- Good command of market and supply chain dynamics.
- Strong attention to detail and comfort using inventory management systems.
- Ability to track supplier performance and manage procurement documentation.
- Chef background is an added advantage.
