About Mindrift
Mindrift connects specialists with project-based AI opportunities for leading tech companies, focused on testing, evaluating, and improving AI systems. Participation is project-based, not permanent employment.
What This Opportunity Involves
Contributors will be tasked with designing original computational physics problems that simulate real physics research workflows. This includes creating problems that require Python programming to solve, utilizing libraries such as Numpy, SciPy, and Sympy. The problems must be computationally intensive, making manual solutions impractical within a reasonable timeframe. Emphasis will be placed on developing challenges that involve complex reasoning chains in mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, and quantum mechanics, drawing inspiration from actual research challenges or practical applications in physics. Solutions will need to be verified using Python and standard physics simulation libraries, and clear documentation for problem statements and verified answers is essential.
What We Look For
This role is ideal for physicists with Python experience who are open to part-time, non-permanent projects. The ideal candidate will possess a degree in Physics (Theoretical, Experimental, or Computational) or a related field, coupled with strong Python proficiency for numerical validation. Experience with other programming languages or tools like MATLAB, R, C, SQL, Numpy, Pandas, SciPy, or Stata is also valued. A minimum of 2 years of professional experience, encompassing applied, research, or teaching roles, is required. Candidates should demonstrate experience with numerical simulation methods, the ability to design problems mirroring real physics research workflows, and creative thinking in problem design across various physics domains. Familiarity with physics modeling and approximation techniques is also important. A strong command of written English, at a C1+ level, is mandatory.
How It Works
The process involves applying, passing qualifications, joining a project, completing tasks, and receiving payment.
Project Time Expectations
Active project phases are estimated to require approximately 10-20 hours per week. This is an estimate and not a guaranteed workload, applicable only during active project periods.
Compensation
Contributors can earn up to the equivalent of $45 per hour, with the exact amount dependent on individual skill level and contribution pace. Compensation may vary across different projects based on their scope, complexity, and the expertise required.
