Job description
Role overview
This position focuses on delivering fast, accurate engineering support to refinery operations. The engineer is expected to resolve operational issues in real time, align with company priorities, reduce downtime, and help improve overall productivity across plant assets.
Communication and coordination
- Work closely with internal stakeholders on a regular basis through the reporting line, sharing information, following policies, and tracking key performance indicators.

Core responsibilities
- Create and improve engineering solutions that raise asset performance, efficiency, and productivity.
- Contribute to engineering projects such as new installations, equipment upgrades, and expansion work.
- Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to ensure engineering deliverables support successful project completion.
- Provide lifecycle engineering support for plant assets and technical assistance to operations, maintenance, and shutdown teams.
- Review technical issues and support the resolution of engineering-related problems during maintenance and turnaround activities.
- Assess change requests and prepare design modifications approved under management of change or project governance processes.
- Develop design packages for in-house changes and management of change activities, including the required calculations.
- Visit the plant frequently to discuss operational concerns with OME teams and support equipment improvement initiatives.
- Take part in troubleshooting discussions for equipment failures, system issues, and process abnormalities.
- Work with technicians, engineers, reliability specialists, and operations teams to analyze abnormalities and identify practical corrective actions.
- Research equipment, systems, and processes to diagnose performance issues and remove recurring problems.
- Investigate failures, determine root causes, and recommend actions that reduce the risk of repeat incidents.
- Participate in root cause analysis activities and help prepare the related reports and feedback.
- Stay current with industry practices, emerging technologies, and technical lessons learned.
- Join plant acceptance tests and verify that changes or added equipment meet required standards.
- Assess operational and technical risk for plant assets and support compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
- Help develop, update, and improve standards, procedures, objectives, work instructions, and technical manuals.
- Support operations and maintenance during planned shutdowns, emergency shutdowns, and major incidents, including technical troubleshooting and emergency response support.
- Review failure reports and shutdown incident reports and provide engineering recommendations.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of engineering studies, drawings, documents, calculations, technical bulletins, work instructions, guidelines, and procedures.
- Carry out engineering studies and standards reviews to strengthen plant integrity and lower costs.
- Support maintenance strategy planning and capital spare strategy development, including updates to preventive and predictive maintenance tasks.
- Review engineering proposals to confirm that equipment and systems satisfy company standards and support HSE, reliability, profitability, and continuous improvement goals.
- Follow safety and environmental requirements and take part in HSE activities such as near-miss reporting, safety suggestions, and safety quizzes.
- Perform any other work-related duties assigned by the supervisor.
Education and certification
- A bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Computer Engineering, or an equivalent discipline is required.
- A Professional Engineer certification from a recognized engineering institute is required.
Experience
At least 8 years of relevant work experience is required.
